According to NextGen Research, the market for “green” building materials – materials such as concrete, engineered lumber and insulation – will be as large as $513 billion by 2013. This growth is attributed to growing awareness of environmentally friendly materials by builders, government regulations, and a higher willingness to pay by consumers.

According to NextGen’s director of research:

“In the US, buildings account for 38% of all CO2 emissions, use 13.6% of all potable water, and consume 72% of all electrical power generation.”
